Connection44 on performanssitaiteilija Julia Kovácsin yhteistyöhön perustuva performanssiprojekti, joka tutkii kohtaamisia, vuorovaikutusta ja yhteisluomista eri taiteilijoiden kanssa. Jokainen teos syntyy Julia Kovácsin ja kutsutun taiteilijan viikon mittaisen residenssin aikana. Henna Matanuska on monitaiteilija, joka työskentelee sirkuksen, äänen ja kuvataiteen parissa. Sirkuksessa hänen välineenään ovat hulavanteet. Äänitaiteessa Matanuska käyttää c-kasettinauhoista leikeltyjä sattumanvaraisia looppeja, kenttänauhoituksia, minimalistisia syntikoita sekä mikitettyjä objekteja luodakseen kerroksellisia äänimatkoja. Kuvataiteessa hän työskentelee tekstiilien, paksujen maalikerrosten ja vahvojen värien parissa. Hän hyödyntää runsaasti kierrätysmateriaalia ja saatavilla olevia aineksia, jolloin teokset kantavat materiaalien oman historian ja arjen kerrostumat.
Työskentely perustuu odottamattomiin kohtaamisiin ja kokeilevaan prosessiin, jossa kerrokset ja visuaaliset yllätykset rakentavat tiloja, muistumia ja henkilökohtaisia kertomuksia Residenssin aikana taiteilijat työskentelevät yhdessä uuden performanssiteoksen parissa, joka esitetään yleisölle residenssin päätteeksi ainutkertaisena tapahtumana. Connection44 sai inspiraationsa Porin vanhan linja-autoaseman – nykyisen Asema44 – historiasta ja sen merkityksestä kauttakulkupaikkana. Siinä missä bussit pysähtyivät asemalle ja ihmiset kohtasivat toisensa odottaessaan seuraavaa matkaansa, Connection44 kutsuu taiteilijoita ja yleisöä kohtaamaan toisensa taiteen äärellä. Asema44 toimii asemana myös uusille ajatuksille, yhteyksille ja taiteellisille yhteistyömuodoille.
Jokainen Connection44-tapahtuma on ainutlaatuinen, sillä esitys rakentuu residenssissä syntyneestä yhteistyöstä eikä sitä toisteta samanlaisena uudelleen.

Connection44 is a collaborative performance project by performance artist Julia Kovács, which explores encounters, interactions and co-creation with different artists. Each work is created during a week-long residency between Julia Kovács and the invited artist. Henna Matanuska is a multidisciplinary artist working across circus, sound, and visual art. In her circus practice, her chosen medium is the hula hoop.
In her sound art, Matanuska uses random loops cut from cassette tapes, field recordings, minimalist synthesizers, and amplified objects to create layered sonic journeys. In her visual art practice, she works with textiles, thick layers of paint, and bold colours. She makes extensive use of recycled materials and found or readily available materials, allowing the works to carry the histories of the materials themselves as well as layers of everyday life. Her practice is rooted in unexpected encounters and an experimental process, where layers and visual surprises construct spaces, memories, and personal narratives. During the residency, the artists work together on a new performance work, which is presented to the public as a unique event at the end of the residency.
Connection44 was inspired by the history of the old bus station in Pori – now Asema44 – and its significance as a transit point. Where buses stopped at the station and people met each other while waiting for their next journey, Connection44 invites artists and the public to meet each other around art. Station44 also serves as a hub for new ideas, connections, and artistic collaborations.
Each Connection44 event is unique, as the performance is built on the collaboration that emerged during the residency and will never be repeated the same way again.
